Authors of accepted submissions are expected to register by the author registration deadlines below or they will not be included in the program.

Review and Publication: All contributions will be subject to standard peer review for quality, relevance, and novelty, which will determine acceptance and the form of presentation. All submissions will be kept confidential prior to publication in the proceedings. Instructions for camera-ready versions will be sent to authors of accepted submissions. All submission types will be published as open access in Zenodo.

The Special Issue Editors are looking into options to invite accepted and presented submissions to US-RSE’23 to submit to a special issue in a suitable journal post-conference. Authors of selected submissions will receive the invitation after the conference.

Short and Long Papers

We invite papers as peer-reviewed publications highlighting the above topic areas and the software/software techniques that enabled the research! Accepted papers will be given the opportunity to have an oral presentation during the conference (short papers will be lightning talks of 5 minutes and long papers will be 15 minutes). Both types of submissions will be included in the digital proceedings.

Papers should follow the IEEE format. Short papers should have no fewer than 300 words, but no more than two pages; long papers should be no longer than 8 pages in length. Neither limit includes references.

We particularly encourage submissions from first-time conference presenters and from members of groups that have historically been underrepresented in the scientific community.

Notebooks

Given the necessity for software in all aspects of research today, we would also like to encourage the submission of computational notebooks. To account for the broad variety of use cases for notebooks, we are accepting submissions in three categories, described in detail on the Notebook Submissions page. Accepted notebooks will be given the opportunity for a 15 minute oral presentation and included in our digital proceedings. There will be a US-RSE community call in March dedicated to discussing details and answering questions about notebook submissions.
