Better Allies Book Club Discussion, Part I
- –
Watching and Observing as an Ally
In an effort to promote continual education and discussion, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group (DEI-WG) at the US-RSE is starting up a book club / discussion group.
Dr. Cherri Pancake gave an inspiring talk, “Can We Change the Face of Computing?” to kick off our DEI Speaker Series and was enthusiastic about the book “Better Allies: Everyday Actions to Create Inclusive, Engaging Workplaces” by Karen Catlin, so this is the first book we’re choosing to read and discuss.
The discussion will be in three parts, following the structure of the book - you won’t need to read the whole book before the first meeting.
- Sign up for the book club discussion
- Buy the book (or get it from your local library)
- Read “Part One: Watching and Observing as an Ally” (pages 1-55), and come prepared to discuss it
When: Tuesday, May 25 from 12:00 PM -12:50 PM ET
